my ultima online home recreated on minecraft

A few years ago, Ultima Online came released an expansion called The 8th Age, and they came out with a game box that featured screenshots from 3 player houses in the game.

Mine ended up being one of them!

I didn't even know it was going to be there, I just had a guildmate suddenly tell me over teamspeak, "Magia!! Your house is on the box of UO!!" and I was like… what? He linked me a picture of it on some website that was taking pre-orders, and it was indeed my house!

I even know when the screenshot was taken. I was actually on the second floor of my house then, doing some crafting, when suddenly some random player comes into my house after killing a mongbat right outside my door (which is also on the screenshot, lol!). He went around then stood where he was standing in the picture for more than a few seconds. I was coming down to say hello but he didn't really say anything and left.

I didn't really think much of it because random players do come into people's houses, either to check out the décor or to try and loot any unprotected goodies. So it was a pleasant surprise to find my house on the back of the box.

I quite miss my house on UO. I actually had 2 because I had 2 accounts back then and each account was entitled to 1 plot. This one was my "public" more-decorated house on the PVE section of the world, and it had vendors and other things. My other house, which contained all my goodies, was in Felucca, the PVP area.

OH GOD I'VE RAMBLED ON, HAVEN'T I? Sorry. I tend to do that. TLDR, I miss my frucking UO home so much that I thought I would recreate it somewhat on the Reddit PVE server. And here it is!

There’s a lot of missing elements, of course, such as the asian-styled windows and the big honkin’ green soulstone in the middle of the lake. But I put a tree there instead.

I also didn’t have any asian-themed furniture. I mean, this is minecraft, so I had to make do. Here’s my kitchen. I always have cake in my kitchen.

I really do wish someone eventually recreates an entire Ultima map on minecraft. Perhaps even turn it into an AdventureCraft map! Oh the funzies one could have!

just when i thought i was getting bored with minecraft…

I haven't played minecraft for a while because I was kind of bored. I mean, I know there are new things to do since two patches ago, and I always think of things to build. But it gets kind of... lonely. I rarely ever play single player and when I do, it's usually to try a new AdventureCraft map (the Zelda one is amazing!), or heavily loaded with mods that add nifty things to the game.

I play multiplayer Minecraft because I love looking at other people's creations and "living" in them.

And so when the S.O. and his friends introduced me to the Reddit Public PVE server, I've gotten myself hooked again. There are actually towns and cities in this one, and you really have to scrimp and farm so you have stuff to eat and tools to adventure with. Plus, they've got an awesome railway system connecting the towns. I *love* well-made railway systems on minecraft.

The S.O. toured me around, and it reminded me so much of my time in Ultima Online. This is not a bad thing! I loved the player housing in UO, and all the little things that other players left for you to interact with (shop NPCs, interesting artifacts, etc).

And just look at some of the things people build around here! Here’s one of the towns. Christmas tree still up from the holiday festivities. I think this might be Seneca?

Here’s the Seneca Spleef Stadium. The Reddit PVE-ers take their spleef very seriously. :)

This one is Bluemanze’s cathedral from the outside:

And a pic of me and the inside of the cathedral. I’m sporting an Optimus Prime skin. This cathedral is huge!!

There’s a massive building project going on right now called the Uber Project, and here are the inner halls:

And inside one of the gigantic rooms is a wall full of minecraft faces:

I currently live in a small shack, but I think I might expand "my land" a little bit and recreate my UO house which was featured on the back of the official retail box of one of the UO expansions. :) I'm going to need to grow and farm a lot of dark wood trees though. >.< But having a goal is certainly one way to gain interest in a game again.

If you ever get tired of minecrafting on your own, or on a friends-only server, you really should try one of the big and populated ones. It certainly offers a new playing experience that might appeal to you very much!
